Ideales Revolucionarios

On the Bicentennial of the Independence of Ecuador, the Embassy of Ecuador in Italy and the City of Rome present the “Ideales Revolucionarios”, an exhibition of the indigenous Ecuadorian artist Amaru Cholango, in collaboration with the Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali e della Comunicazione - Sovraintendenza ai Beni Culturali del Comune di Roma and with the contribution of the Consigliere Comunale Aggiunto per il Continente America, Madisson Godoy. In additino to solo and group exhibitions in Europe and South America, Cholango showed his versatility by taking part to performances, poetry readings and lectures on modern art. Among the exhibitions in which he participated: Kassel’s Documenta in 1997, the Venice Biennale in 1997 and the Biennale of Sao Paulo in 2003. Amaru Cholango, who is a versatile and innovative artist, presents a selection of his works which span through the universal values of the French Revolution - Liberty, Equality and Fraternity - and their influence on other countries, particularly in Latin America. The exhibition proceeds from the freshness and immediacy of his drawings to the physicality of the sculptures, and it offers a complete overview of Cholango’s artistry, and it is no accident that he is considered a master in combining his broad and almost abstract vision of the reality with the common sense and the aesthetics of contemporary art.
